Each Year Team Triumph endeavors to give back to its community by raising funds for an organization or individuals in need of financial support. In 2020 Tokyo will be hosting the Olympics so we have decided that we would like to support our future Ontario Olympians! We have identified 3 young athletes who are in need of a little extra funding this year and we would like to share a little about each of them with you.
Our second featured athlete is Aethan Cubitt, Competitive Sailor
Aethan Cubitt,17, is one of the top Laser youth sailors in Canada. He has been around sailboats his entire life, including a year abroad with the family on a sailboat. Aethan has sailed competitively for 7 years and has recently been selected by Sail Canada to join the Canadian Sailing Youth Squad based on his skill, talent, and professionalism.
He was identified through several talent identification camps which attracted 186 of the best sailors from across Canada in 2020. Of the 186 that tried out, 45 were invited to attend the Canadian Sailing Youth Squad trials camp held January 2020 in Clearwater, Florida. From this camp, 10 male and 5 female laser-class sailors were nominated to the 2020 Canadian Sailing Youth Squad.
This is a big year for Aethan. The commitments required by the sailors on the Youth Squad include competing at the Youth World Championships in Poland, one European event and attendance at the Canadian Sailing Team & Development Squad Camp in October of 2020, in addition to his regular regatta schedule.
Based on his continued success at these major regattas and camps in both 2020 and 2021 Aethan is well on track to make the Canadian National Team when he turns 19 and represents Canada in international events including the summer Olympics in 2024 or 2028.
Aethans drive and determination are enough to move anyone. We are excited to support his Olympic dreams.
A year ago I could only tread water and had not run since childhood. With the amazing Virtual Olympic course, support, guidance, and tips from of all the folks at Team Triumph I've ended the season with my first Olympic distance triathlon under my belt and am hooked! Really looking forward to the 2025 season and even to the hard work over the winter to prepare. Karen Houle
I wanted to let you know that the Perth triathlon was a great experience, I somehow placed third in my age group! What a supportive group of participants (including Team Triumph athletes), cheering bystanders and volunteers.
Thanks to your swim lessons, I learned the technical basics and gained confidence to get back in the pool after decades. And it was really special doing this with Ann Laidlaw, my bestie for many years. We did a couple of additional swims with Kevin and Team Triumph people, also a great way to continue learning and practicing good technical form.
I will continue with lane swimming and who knows, maybe there's another triathlon in my future!
I love the accountability and the structure of the Virtual 70.3 Half Ironman training program. I don't think I would have gotten this far without the program. The accountability is huge for me!
