LINDA MARTIN 2ND AT XTERRA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!

On our Triumph Cycling Discord channel, Linda Martin was saying that she didn't have huge expectations going into the Xterra World Championships in Hawaii but she was going to give it her all.

It turned out the day was a much bigger challenge than expected. It was a windy stormy day and the ocean was filled with hazardous rip currents so they replaced the swim with a 3k run. The run was then followed by a 2 lap - 31km mountain bike ride and an 11km trail run with nearly 4000 ft of combined technical climbing! As the rain came down hard, you can imagine the course became slicker! After the pros had gone through the course the age groupers were dealt with loads of mud and tough conditions.

The challenging course didn't stop Linda from pushing her limits and coming in 2nd across the line in her age category!

A HUGE congratulations to Linda on this amazing accomplishment and coming 2nd in the world!!

Ironman 70.3 Florida - last race of 2021!

Congratulations to Helene Fortier on an incredible race season in an incredibly difficult time to train and race!

Here's Helene's Race Report:

When I signed up with military friends, I thought the body would be pretty tired and sore after racing Muskoka 70.3, Marathon P’tit train du Nord, the Boston Marathon (opted for Virtual) and Ironman Cozumel. Surprise, I had tons of energy and my body felt in top shape! Considering that it was sunny and very hot, I’m happy with my results.

I enjoyed Ironman 70.3 Florida. This is a great place for a first 70.3. It’s simple! You swim in a lake with your wetsuit and the course is an M shape. The bike course has lots of hills but they’re not difficult. Because of Covid, this race was moved from April to December and woohoo, Christmas decorations as well as hundreds of orange trees during orange season and we received oranges at the finish line, as well as pizza, bagel, cookies, etc. The sun was out and it was hot for December.

The run was also hilly, yes, Florida is not all flat! Again, it was pretty hot so I used lots of water and ice and ran with a smile! Always a bonus to see friends around!

Traveling required extra steps with proof of vaccines and Covid tests but I felt very safe as masks are mandatory for all aircrafts and airports and people in general tend to pass on eating and drinking inside airplanes. The race venue was all outside in a park and beach with space and we had a rental house all weekend.

I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to participate at all these events!
