CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA HALF MARATHON

Karyn Houle's First Half Marathon Experience

Turning Your Racing Dreams into Reality

Ever dreamed of doing a destination race? Planning a race around a trip can be a blast! A destination race offers a unique blend of athletic challenge, personal accomplishment, and the thrill of exploring a new place. While it requires careful planning and consideration, the rewards of such an adventure are immeasurable.

While on a business trip in California, Team Triumpher's Karyn Houle completed her first half marathon. Part of our 70.3 Group Training Program, Karyn decided to try the distance. Congratulations, Karyn!

Karyn's Race Report:

The race day began chilly at 4°C. I wished for toss-away mittens, but warmed up quickly once running. The event hosted both Half and Full Marathons, with frequent water and Gatorade stations and live bands along the route playing tunes like 'Tequila.'

Though my longest run was previously 15km, I managed the half marathon by pushing through at 16km, taking my husband's advice: "it's just like 10km, but keep going." I realized I need more strength training after struggling with curbs post-race.

Overall, it was a fantastic start to 2025 under palm trees. I'm grateful for our triathlon community that encourages me to take on tough challenges!

Cheers,

Karyn
