Around the Bay 30K 2025
The Around the Bay 30km Race in Hamilton brought its usual weather challenges of freezing rain, rain and wind along with some hills. Eren Perez, our 2024 Athlete of the Year, went out with a race plan of keeping it easy and making the race a training run. With the London Marathon ahead in April, we had decided that there was no pressure to perform at this race. Well, we all know what happens when race arrives haha!! When the gun went off and she realised that she felt strong she went for it and had an incredibly fast race! 8 minutes above her target time, which placed her in the top 15 in her age category and 72nd overall in the women's division! Wowza!! Way to go Eren!
Carolyn Kropp also joined in on the crazy fun in Hamilton! She was happy with her 1st race of the season and 1st time running ATB. This season she will also be tackling Ottawa Race Weekend Marathon, Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant, Ironman Ottawa and the Berlin Marathon! Looks like Sarv Heirani Moghaddam, from our 70.3 Group, surprised herself and did a great 30km as well! Congratulations to you all!!
Deborah Jackman and Julie Matte opted to do the virtual 30km. Completing a race of this length is not easy on your own. They both got it done pushing their limits both physically and mentally. These runs are great preparation for the upcoming Ironman in Ottawa.
Meanwhile our Group Ironman Program had a 2 hour ride, 45 min run on Saturday and then a 2:45 long run on Sunday. Our 70.3 Group had a 2 hour ride on Saturday and an 18km Run on Sunday. Our crazy winter weather also challenged all of our athletes on Sunday, both physically and mentally! Some opted to do the long run on the treadmill, some outside, or some opted to do another long ride instead. Now that's dedication to the training plan! Congrats Team!
A year ago I could only tread water and had not run since childhood. With the amazing Virtual Olympic course, support, guidance, and tips from of all the folks at Team Triumph I've ended the season with my first Olympic distance triathlon under my belt and am hooked! Really looking forward to the 2025 season and even to the hard work over the winter to prepare. Karen Houle
I wanted to let you know that the Perth triathlon was a great experience, I somehow placed third in my age group! What a supportive group of participants (including Team Triumph athletes), cheering bystanders and volunteers.
Thanks to your swim lessons, I learned the technical basics and gained confidence to get back in the pool after decades. And it was really special doing this with Ann Laidlaw, my bestie for many years. We did a couple of additional swims with Kevin and Team Triumph people, also a great way to continue learning and practicing good technical form.
I will continue with lane swimming and who knows, maybe there's another triathlon in my future!
I love the accountability and the structure of the Virtual 70.3 Half Ironman training program. I don't think I would have gotten this far without the program. The accountability is huge for me!
