Over the weekend, the graduating class of the 2025 Try a Tri and Sprint Program completed the Early Bird Triathlon. Randy Peaker, aged 72, started swimming a couple of years ago, and it has been a consistent challenge for him. With Coach Cheryl's swimming lessons, Randy has made significant progress.
During a group Zoom call, Randy discussed his need to improve his breathing technique and shared that he practiced by using a bucket filled with water at home. Following this Zoom call, Randy was nicknamed "Buckets." His teammate Andrew McKelvey designed a bucket featuring the Triumph logo and poured water over Randy's head at the finish line in celebration. Randy not only finished the race but also won his age category in the Super Sprint!
This bucket symbolized the strong bond among the group, as they regularly attended calls and supported each other. This camaraderie reflects Coach Gabi's efforts in bringing the group together, motivating them, and making the calls engaging.
The event also featured our young athletes. Jackson and Tristan Obaseki, who participate in swim practice on Fridays with their mother Stephanie, competed in the under-15 race and finished in first and second overall. Brad Vlaming from the Ironman Group and Julia's son Evan also participated in the under-15 event. Congratulations to 2024 70.3 graduate Tom Zinck, who completed the sprint race.
You will see below that we have opened up registration for the Group Olympic Distance Program. We have just 4 spots left so be sure to register now so you don't miss your chance!

A year ago I could only tread water and had not run since childhood. With the amazing Virtual Olympic course, support, guidance, and tips from of all the folks at Team Triumph I've ended the season with my first Olympic distance triathlon under my belt and am hooked! Really looking forward to the 2025 season and even to the hard work over the winter to prepare. Karen Houle
I wanted to let you know that the Perth triathlon was a great experience, I somehow placed third in my age group! What a supportive group of participants (including Team Triumph athletes), cheering bystanders and volunteers.
Thanks to your swim lessons, I learned the technical basics and gained confidence to get back in the pool after decades. And it was really special doing this with Ann Laidlaw, my bestie for many years. We did a couple of additional swims with Kevin and Team Triumph people, also a great way to continue learning and practicing good technical form.
I will continue with lane swimming and who knows, maybe there's another triathlon in my future!
I love the accountability and the structure of the Virtual 70.3 Half Ironman training program. I don't think I would have gotten this far without the program. The accountability is huge for me!
