When Injuries Disrupt Your Race Goals

OTTAWA RACE WEEKEND REPORT

Injuries are tough for athletes. It's frustrating to watch others run while you're sidelined. Even when you think everything's fine, injuries can strike. Luc suffered a hamstring injury before the Boston Marathon, so we scaled back his training. He patiently followed his physio's advice and worked on consistent rehab pre- and post-Boston to prepare for ORW. In the end his patience paid off. He had a PB at the Boston Marathon and a 7 year PB at the Ottawa Race Weekend Half Marathon.

Key activities that aided Luc's rehab and return to running:

  • Yoga
  • Chiro
  • Swimming
  • Physio
  • Stretching and Strengthening

Here is Luc's Report and Results!

I started off slow to test out my hamstring and see how things would respond after the past few weeks. By around the 2 km mark, everything felt great, so I decided to pick up the pace and just enjoy the race.

  • Time: 1:36:41 (equaled my 2018 PB)
  • Overall: 629/9466
  • Age group: 11/373

Big thanks to my buddy Pascal Bessette for running with me and pacing me perfectly from start to finish. Thanks also to my awesome support crew for the energy along the way, and especially to my wife Marie Nathalie Moreau for your unconditional support.

And of course, thank you Coach Julia for your ongoing guidance and support—I wouldn’t be back in shape without you.

Finally, a big shoutout to Moveo Sports and Manual Physiotherapy for getting me back on track just in time.

Congratulations to Luc on his stellar performances at the ORW Half Marathon and the Boston Marathon!

The BUZZZZZ of Ottawa Race Weekend is always a thrill whether you're spectating, pacing a friend or family member, chasing a PB or completing your first long distance road race. We had several members out running and I'm sure that I have missed a few. Congratulations to everyone who participated and thanks to all those who volunteered!
