It's Amazing What You Can Do When You Sing the Pokemon Song!

Jessie Hall's Ironman 70.3 Mont Tremblant Race Report

The morning started off a little rainy and the nerves were definitely high. I was a little anxious watching everyone set up their transition zone with fancy bikes, gear and seeing people that looked like they were going to the Olympics.

I was so grateful to have lined up for the swim and get rid of some prerace nerves with my friends and team mates. Arriving at the beach the energy was exactly how you'd imagine, music blasting and everyone chatting and ready to start the race.

Swim: I definitely started a little too far back on the swim and spent most of my swim passing people and weaving in-between everyone. Someone did end up grabbing my leg in the first 500m which made me panic a little bit but i was able to push through. I really did enjoy the swim portion and felt like my training had paid off. I had lots of energy once I finished the swim and was so excited to see the crowd cheering and my family and friends that showed up to surprise me.

Bike: The bike was lots of fun! I took coach Gabi's advice and made sure to start dumping water on my head at every aid station to stay on top of the heat that was starting to creep up on us. I spent lots of time in aero because of all the wind but felt good. This was my first big bike "alone" and ended up singing a few times to pass the time. 🤣 I didn't realize someone was behind me when I was singing the pokemon theme song and we ended up singing together going up the hill 🤣. Going into Duplessis i was feeling great. Hitting Duplessis was a lot less fun and didn't feel like I got to ride the downhill as much as I hoped. I was ecstatic to be done with Duplessis 🤣

Run: I won't beat around the bush. The run sucked. The heat and humidity were brutal and the hills were the cherry on top. I knew my body was capable of the distance and it really became a mental game to push through. I truly lit up when I saw my friends, family and team mates cheering me on throughout the course!  The finish line was incredible! The energy was truly amazing and I'm so happy that I finished and was able to enjoy at least most of the experience.

Overall I'm super proud that all the training paid off. People who haven't trained for endurance sports don't understand that it's really not about how you do on race day but the months of work you put into the sport. Showing up to train when you didn't want to, pushing through rough training days and seeing the small improvements overtime that lead up to race day. What a life changing sport!
