BRAD VLAMING
TEAM TRIUMPH TRIATHLON CLUB
2025 ATHLETE OF THE YEAR!
What an outstanding year it has been for Brad. In his inaugural Ironman season, he achieved significant milestones: completing the IM 70.3 in Mt Tremblant, finishing the Ironman in Ottawa, and qualifying for the prestigious Ironman World Championships in Nice. Demonstrating extraordinary resilience, just three weeks after completing the Ottawa Ironman, Brad tackled Ironman Nice.
Brad’s accomplishments are even more remarkable considering the hurdles he faced along the way. Six weeks before the Ironman, a bike accident sent him to the emergency room. He encountered major mechanical issues with his triathlon bike, which kept him off it for a period. Amidst these setbacks, Brad’s wife Julia gave birth to their third child. Despite every challenge, Brad’s tenacity and determination shone through, proving that no obstacle is too great for him. He is quick to acknowledge that his successes would not have been possible without Julia’s unwavering support.
Brad’s journey into triathlon was itself a story of perseverance. Following a cancer diagnosis in 2018, he underwent surgery and treatments that significantly impacted his physical and mental health. Encouraged by Julia, he joined her at a Bring a Friend Team Triumph swim practice. Although initially sceptical—given his background in team sports and limited swimming skills—Brad accepted the challenge. Julia fondly recalls a time when she was the faster swimmer, but Brad’s determination saw him master swimming and improve his speed in the pool.
In 2019, Brad bought a second-hand road bike and entered his first triathlon, quickly becoming hooked on the sport. From 2020 to 2025, he competed on various podiums in sprint and olympic distance events, completed the 3km Bring on the Bay swim multiple times, participated in the Gatineau Loppet 25k and 50km races, the Fall Colours marathon, and the IM 70.3 Barrelman twice.
Brad’s story is one of hope, inspiration, and perseverance—proof that dreams are worth chasing, no matter the obstacles. Congratulations, Brad, on everything you have achieved. We eagerly anticipate the 2026 season as you prepare to tackle Ironman Ottawa again!
I would highly recommended Eric and Team Triumph!

A year ago I could only tread water and had not run since childhood. With the amazing Virtual Olympic course, support, guidance, and tips from of all the folks at Team Triumph I've ended the season with my first Olympic distance triathlon under my belt and am hooked! Really looking forward to the 2025 season and even to the hard work over the winter to prepare. Karen Houle
I wanted to let you know that the Perth triathlon was a great experience, I somehow placed third in my age group! What a supportive group of participants (including Team Triumph athletes), cheering bystanders and volunteers.
Thanks to your swim lessons, I learned the technical basics and gained confidence to get back in the pool after decades. And it was really special doing this with Ann Laidlaw, my bestie for many years. We did a couple of additional swims with Kevin and Team Triumph people, also a great way to continue learning and practicing good technical form.
I will continue with lane swimming and who knows, maybe there's another triathlon in my future!
